Rincon Ridge Guitars, LLC.

Affordable custom guitars, hand crafted one at a time

Happy New Year

With the new year, comes a new look for Rincon Ridge Guitars. Over the years we have provided internet users with high quality parts at a very reasonable price, however we have decided to put our full attention into the custom guitar shop. We can still get parts for those of you that need them, however they will no longer be our primary focus on our web site.

We have revamped the web site to provide you with high quality products, custom signature models, and information that we feel is worth sharing. You can still count on Rincon Ridge Guitars for references and information. We can still supply parts, but it will be via email and/or pickup at our shop. For some of you it may be an inconvienience not having the shopping cart directly on our web site, but we feel we can better serve you from the custom shop. Feel free to drop us a line anytime and voice your comments.

The Rob Cursio Signature Bass

Handcrafted Guitars

Our hand crafted guitars are built to our own specifications. Each instrument posted on our available page is offered for sale and we offer no changes to the basic instrument itself. After each instrument is completed, it is played in a gig setting to insure that it measures up to our standards and will satisfy our customer.

The Rob Cursio Signature Bass

By Rick Leis, September 1, 2011

Our latest design is a Rob Cursio passive, four string PJ bass. It is built with high quality components such as top of the line pick ups and tuner keys. The core of the body is basswood laminated with a top of Red and white Paduak They come with a standard maple neck, with a rosewood fret-board. We have a few active and passive basses already built or we custom build them. This model is also available as an active bass as well.

Once your guitar and components are decided on, it takes us about 60 man hours to hand craft them. Once they are finished to our liking, the final setup is done.

Who is Rincon Ridge Guitars

By Doug Garno, July 7, 2011

Rincon Ridge was started by Rick Leis and Doug Garno with the purpose of providing quality hand-made one of a kind guitars. I have to admit that what I really wanted to do is build some wild guitars and also compare them to what is being produced by the mass builders. The game is afoot Watson.

Addition to building hand-made guitars, we wanted to build a guitar that meets or exceeds what the user expects. Not all musicians like the same feel about a guitar. For example there are several styles for necks. Depending on the size of your hand and how you like to play, a different neck may make all the difference on how the guitar feels when played.

We also want to bring the natural look of wood to the industry. Currently just about all the mass producers paint the wood with many coats of lacquer. Now this isn't bad, however there are many woods that are beautiful in their natural state. For example: Zebrawood - resembles the striping of a zebra, with dark stripes on a light background. Or Padauk - straight to interlocked grain, rich red to purple red heartwood and pale-beige sapwood. One would not paint over such woods but rather bring out the beauty of the wood. Since our instruments are hand crafted we appreciate the natural beauty of the wood itself, this includes grains, knots, worm and bug holes that enhance the beauty of our instruments. Frequently, wood is picked because it does have flaws and natural character. Both Rick and I are bringing our love for exotic woods into building unique, one-of-a-kind, hand-crafted guitars.

Handcrafted Guitars

By Doug Garno, May 27, 2011

Why purchase a handcrafted guitar? Why are hand-made items like furniture, clothing, musical instruments, etc. highly prized items? What does hand-made techniques bring to the guitar industry?

There are many benefits to hand-made items including musical instruments. One benefit is that there is not two items the same in the world. No matter how you try, there are no two alike, ever. With modern manufacturing technologies, machines can hold tolerances as close to 0.001%quote;. Also with high volume painting, drying, and finishing techniques companies can reproduce hundreds or even thousands identical guitars. While this reduces the cost of manufacturing, it removes uniqueness. Everyone has the same guitar. That is why these larger companies have to offer many different painting schemes. They are trying to bring uniqueness back into the mass manufacturing environment. We continue to bring the WOW factor to the guitar industry.

Quality is another benefit to a hand-made guitar. While there are no real rules for the use of materials in the making of excellent electric basses and guitars, craftsmanship for making high quality musical instruments is of the highest value and goals. Our hand crafted guitars are built to our own specifications, one at a time. From start to finish, no other guitar is built until the current one if finished. Each guitar has the complete attention of our skilled craftsmen. Building only one-at-a-time, attention to every detail is maintained with high quality standards. This is how Rincon Ridge can produce guitars that you can cherish for years to come.

All of the mass produced guitar companies like Fender, Gibson, Martin, etc. have a custom shop that produces limited quantities usually more like a handmade guitar but special based on a players request. You will first notice the difference in cost. When you purchase a handcrafted guitar you are purchasing many hours of a craftsman's time, and also the limited quantity. Just like a fine painting. You can purchase a Kinkaid painting at a warehouse club for about $150.00 or you can get the original painting at a gallery for $500,000.00. The difference? You get the original not a copy. The same concept is what Fender, Gibson, Martin and others are doing in their custom shop. At Rincon Ridge ALL of our guitars are custom. We don't want to sell a copy to anyone. We keep our overhead to a minimum and apply reasonable labor rates to keep the cost of our guitars reasonable.
